Bolter Miner

A Bolter Miner (BM) is an advanced underground coal mining machine that combines the functions of a Continuous Miner and Roof Bolter in a single unit. It cuts coal from the face and simultaneously installs roof bolts for immediate roof support, improving safety and operational efficiency.

Bolter miners are widely used in room-and-pillar mining where maintaining roof stability during cutting is critical.

Advantages of Bolter Miner

  1. Simultaneous Cutting and Roof Support
Roof bolts are installed immediately after cutting, improving safety.
  2. Higher Safety Level
Workers are better protected because the roof is supported during mining.
  3. Higher Productivity
Reduces downtime between coal cutting and roof bolting.
  4. Better Ground Control
Improves stability in weak roof conditions.
  5. Reduced Workforce at the Face
    More automation reduces manpower requirement.

Applicability

Bolter miners are suitable for:

  • Underground coal mines using Room and Pillar method
  • Seams with weak or moderately weak roof strata
  • Mines requiring high safety standards
  • Seam thickness generally between 1.8 m to 4.5 m
