Digital Mining with AI & ML and Numerical Modelling
Digital Mining or Smart Mining refers to the use of advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), and numerical modelling to improve the efficiency, safety, and productivity of mining operations. These technologies enable real-time monitoring of mining equipment, geological conditions, and production processes, allowing mines to operate in a more intelligent and data-driven manner.
AI and ML algorithms analyze operational data to predict equipment failures, optimize production schedules, and enhance decision-making. This helps in reducing downtime, improving equipment utilization, and maintaining consistent production. Smart sensors and digital monitoring systems also provide real-time information on environmental conditions and machine performance, improving overall mine safety.
Numerical modelling plays an important role in modern mining by simulating the behavior of rock strata and underground structures. Techniques such as Finite Element Method (FEM), Finite Difference Method (FDM), and Discrete Element Method (DEM) are used for mine design, pillar design, stress analysis, subsidence prediction, and ground stability assessment.
By integrating AI, ML, and numerical modelling, digital mining systems support better mine planning, safer operations, predictive maintenance, and optimized production, making mining operations more efficient, sustainable, and technologically advanced.
